Looking for a different way to celebrate Halloween? Look no further. Ruth lists her top 5 alternative Halloween events.

1: Haunted Hellfire Club Walk

For those looking for an alternative to partying and dressing up for Halloween, this Hidden Dublin Walks event is for you. Over the course of Halloween week, the Hellfire Express bus will be bringing passengers from Merchants Quay to the infamous Hellfire Club by the Dublin Mountains. Here, they will embark on a walk up to the burnt-out shell of the haunted hunting lodge, which dates back to 1725 and is known for its association with Satanism. The walk is guided by a story-teller who will recount the history of the lodge, as well as stories of events that took place there such as the human and animal sacrifices. The excursion lasts 2.5 hours in total (including driving time) and the bus embarks at 7pm each evening. Find more information, here http://www.hiddendublinwalks.com/ghost-tour-dublin.php.

2: The Nightmare Realm

Having originated in Cork, The Nightmare Realm took up residency in the RDS last Halloween and its great success prompted its return to the capital this October. This year, however, the venue is even bigger (the space has doubled in size) and better than last year. Not for the faint hearted, the walk-through event is designed to prey on your deepest fears and turn them into a deadly reality. Prepare to be frightened by an array of ghouls, witches, zombies and much more. For those would prefer to leave the Realm with some of their nerves still intact, there is an option to wear a wristband which fends off certain ghouls and turns them into a pool of goo. Tickets are between €16-€24, find out more, here http://thenightmarerealm.ie/. Visit – if you dare.

3: I Know What You Did Last Semester: DITSU Halloween Fancy Dress Party

I KNOW. This doesn’t exactly classify as alternative per se, but believe me – it’s going to be a fantastic night. DITSU are running their own fancy dress party in The Button Factory this Thursday 26th October. The annual event is one of the highlights of the DITSU’s calendar and gets bigger and better each year. This year, there will be prizes for the best costume as well as 3 DJs and a live MAGICIAN. Its guaranteed to be one hell of a night. Find out more, here https://tinyurl.com/ybv6ahco.

4: Poltergeist Halloween Interactive Horror Movie

It’s obligatory to watch at least one scary film during Halloween. If you only watch one over the coming week, let it be the outdoor screening of Steven Speilberg’s Horror Classic Poltergeist at the Loughcrew Church and Gardens this Saturday 28th October. The screening is to be held in grounds of the 400-year old venue, and guests are advised to bring their own rugs, refreshments and pillows to hide behind. If the weather doesn’t permit the outdoor screening, there is an indoor alternative. 5: Get Down Chow Down: Farrier & Draper Halloween Brunch Party

Feeling fancy? This Sunday 29th, Farrier & Draper are hosting a Halloween brunch party in La Cucina on South William Street. The day ticket will get you a gorgeous brunch with bottomless mimosas during your sitting, before moving upstairs to join the party in the Farrier & Draper’s main bar. DJs will be playing tunes all day into the night. Costumes are mandatory! Book your ticket at https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/get-down-chown-down-halloween-brunch-party-tickets-38842824935?aff=es2.
